What is the New Covenant and what has it to do with Holy Communion?

The old covenant law, the Old Testament Mosaic law, God had established with His people Since the days of Moses." Rituals and Sacrifices" were necessary in order to stay within God's Grace. If a person did not obey the commandments and do the rituals by performing sacrifices
they were fallen from grace and would die spiritually and be spiritually dead and would not make it into heaven. This was the penalty of sin. The shedding of blood for the atonement of sins was the only way to be pardoned from the wages of sin, death.

This goes back even further to the Garden Of Eden when;
the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.(Genesis 2:16-17)

The moment that man chose to follow his own desires—instead of God’s will—he cut himself off from God.

Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.(Isaiah 59:1&2)

From the time of Adam till the time of Noah the people had become wicked with sin.

And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.

And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.

And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.
And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.( Genesis 9:13-21)

After the Flood God made a Covenant with his people. A Rainbow is the sign given from God of the covenant made with Noah to remind his people that never again would he flood the earth and destroy all living things. This was a new beginning. The beginning of the Old Covenant (First Covenant with God)

Genesis 9:12-17
And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

This didn't stop the wickedness and God set forth his 10 commandments as well as other laws.
His commandments are still his law today. However the new covenant has fulfilled the law and many of his feasts.Which God established to keep track of his timing of things.

The New Covenant has done away with sacrifices and the old Sabbaths

The new covenant is spoken about first in the book of Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 31:31-33

King James Version (KJV)
31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Jesus Establishes the New Covenant and fulfils the Old Covenant

Matthew 5:17

King James Version (KJV)
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

The old covenant was written in stone, but the new covenant is written in our hearts.

2 Corinthians 3:3

King James Version (KJV)
Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

The New Sacrifice Replaces the Old Sacrifices. Once and For All! Instead of sacrificing animals. Our new sacrament is Holy Communion. To remember and set aside the importance of what he has done for us with the Wine and the Bread. He is our Bread and Vine. His Body and Blood.  His blood pours out on all mankind.
“I am the vine, you are the branches …”
John 15:5

16 For I tell you now that I won't eat it again until it comes to fulfillment in the Kingdom of God."
17 Then he took a cup of wine, and when he had given thanks for it, he said, "Take this and share it among yourselves.
18 For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come."
19 Then he took a loaf of bread; and when he had thanked God for it, he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, "This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."
20 After supper he took another cup of wine and said, "This wine is the token of God's new covenant to save you--an agreement sealed with the blood I will pour out for you.

Warning against Idolatry

(Deuteronomy 4:15-31Ezekiel 6:1-7)
29When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land; 30Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. 31Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
32What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
